Wolverhampton Wanderers find themselves at the centre of an internal controversy after a reported dressing room altercation between Portuguese youngster Mateus Mane and Nigerian international Tolu Arokodare, though signs of a reconciliation have since emerged.

According to reports from English journalist Nathan Judah, tensions between the two players boiled over following Wolves’ 4-0 loss to West Ham last week — a result that deepened the club’s relegation concerns. What reportedly began as a verbal disagreement is said to have escalated into a physical confrontation within the dressing room.

Judah’s report identified Arokodare, a Nigeria international, as the primary aggressor in the incident involving Mane, who carries heritage from Guinea-Bissau. In the aftermath, Wolves launched an internal investigation and subsequently imposed a financial penalty on the Super Eagles striker.

Despite the disciplinary action taken against Arokodare, Mane moved quickly to signal that there was no lasting ill-will between the pair. According to reports from Official AGT on X, Mane posted on his Instagram story addressing the Nigerian forward directly, writing: “Big bro ❤️🤞🏿, Brothers in football.”

The public gesture of goodwill suggests the two players have moved past the incident on a personal level, even as the club’s formal disciplinary process ran its course. Arokodare’s fine and reduced playing time have, however, raised questions about his position within Gary O’Neil’s — or the current coaching staff’s — plans for the remainder of the season.

The broader context adds weight to the incident. Wolves are battling to preserve their Premier League status, and a heavy defeat to West Ham only compounded the pressure on a squad already stretched thin. Internal discord of this nature, particularly at such a critical stage of the campaign, is rarely helpful for any side fighting relegation.

Arokodare, who joined Wolves from Genk, has been used predominantly as an impact substitute during his time in the Premier League, with his super-sub role drawing attention earlier this season following a notable appearance against Brentford. His ability to contribute off the bench has been one of the few positives for the club in a difficult campaign, making any uncertainty over his standing within the squad a concern for supporters.

Mane, meanwhile, is among several younger players at Molineux whose development has been complicated by the team’s wider struggles. His decision to publicly back Arokodare, regardless of what reportedly took place, may help ease any lingering tension within the dressing room as Wolves push to avoid the drop.

No official statement has been released by Wolverhampton Wanderers confirming the details of the fine or the internal investigation into the altercation.
