  • Mamelodi Sundowns will play Royal AM in the second semi-final with the winner facing Marumo Gallants in the final

Marumo Gallants are one step closer to defending their Nedbank Cup title.

Gallants beat Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila by a single goal in the first semi-final to book their place in the final.

Thato Khiba brought about the only goal of the game in the 64th minute, although the goal was credited as an own goal against Luvolwethu Mpeta. Khiba attempted to get a cross into the box which hit Mpeta’s boot and deflected over Gersin Kock’s head.

Gallants did push forward again and almost scored a second when Ndabayithethwa Ndlodlo’s long-range freekick was tipped over the bar by Kock. There was some drama towards the end of the game when Katlego Otladisa was shown a red card.

The player has just been taken off and pushed by a TTM player who wanted him to leave the field earlier. Otladisa then tried to get the referee’s attention to the incident and appeared to say something so bad towards the official that it got him a red.

Thankfully Gallants were not reduced to ten men as a result because Otladisa was already sent off. Gallants looked nervy towards the end as they gave TTM a few chances to level the game.

TTM dominated the first half but never really threatened apart from Rhulani Manzini’s freekicks. Manzini’s powerful drives caused some trouble for Gallants in the first half. Manzini’s efforts were about the most interesting attacking events in the first 45 minutes as there were more stoppages for on-field injuries than shots on goal.

TTM wanted to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup, coach Lucky Nelukau is confident they could have won

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) will face Marumo Gallants in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup, but the side is disappointed not to have played Mamelodi Sundowns. Royal AM will instead take on Masandawana in the second semi-final of the competition.

TTM coach, Lucky Nelukau, was confident, though, that his side could have beaten Sundowns if drawn against them, KickOff reportedNelakau, who made headlines for his choice of attire during the game against SuperSport United, said he had confidence that his boys would have got the job done.

TTM did knock out Sundowns in the cup last season, beating them on penalties in the semi-final, Sport24 reported. TTM then went on to beat Chippa United in the final to lift the trophy. The team was then sold and became Marumo Gallants.
