Ernst Middedorp has opened up about his time at Maritzburg United and the difficulties of managing the side.

The German coach was in charge of the side from November 2020 until the beginning of June when he was let go by the owner, Farook Kadodia.

Middendorp has since produced a technical report which he submitted to his former boss, highlighting the difficulties he was working under and some of the challenges posed by the decisions that the club made, Daily Sun reported.

Middendorp's main issue was that players were sold consistently, which meant that he had to constantly find new talent to plug the games in the team.

Middendorp noted that twice he had to say goodbye to a host of players, some as free agents, even though he didn’t want to.

The Team of Choice was home to stars like Richard Ofori, Thabiso Kutumela, Bandile Shandu and Bongokuhle Hlongwane.

Shandu and Ofori have gone on to achieve fame with Orlando Pirates, Kitumela was snapped up by Sundowns and Hlongwane is currently playing in Major League Soccer in the United States of America.

As reported by IOL, Kadodia explained that they have to sell players to survive.

“Over the years Maritzburg United have sold players to keep us alive in the league. If we did not sell players, financially, we would be long out of this league,” he said.

Middendorp was let go on June 8 and replaced with Royal AM’s John Maduka.

John Maduka was officially unveiled as head coach of Maritzburg United after leaving Shauwn Mkhize's Royal AM

John Maduka is officially the new coach of Maritzburg United.

The former Royal AM manager was unveiled as the new manager at a special press conference.

Rumours were circulating from Monday that Maduka had resigned from his post at Shauwn Mkhize’s side, but it was never confirmed.

Ernst Middendorp has become the latest victim of Premier Soccer League clubs parting ways with their coaches this year.

AmaZulu FC, Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United, Baroka FC, Sekhukhune United and Golden Arrows all parted ways with the coaches this year and now Maritzburg United have followed the trend.

Orlando Pirates took a similar route when they let co-coach Fadlu Davids go.
