Alex Iwobi’s availability for the remainder of Fulham’s Premier League campaign is in doubt after the Nigeria international was forced off during the first half of Saturday’s goalless draw at Brentford‘s Gtech Community Stadium, with manager Marco Silva confirming the club is awaiting further medical assessment.
Iwobi pulled up with what appeared to be a muscular problem and, after receiving on-pitch treatment, was unable to continue. Adama Traoré was brought on as his replacement, with Fulham ultimately unable to find a winner in a match that ended 0-0.
Speaking to TNT Sports following the full-time whistle, Silva acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the injury while offering a measured early prognosis. “You always think about the worst possible scenario,” the Portuguese coach said. “He’s not feeling too much pain right now.”
Silva added that the club’s medical staff would require between 24 and 48 hours to reach a more definitive conclusion. “It doesn’t look like a serious hamstring injury, but the next few hours — probably tomorrow or in two days’ time — will give a clearer picture of the situation,” he explained. “Of course, we need to analyse and assess his availability for the next games.”
The Fulham head coach was candid about the impact Iwobi’s potential absence could have on his side as they approach the final weeks of the season. “Let’s hope we are not going to lose him until the end of the season because he’s so important for us,” Silva said. “After a difficult week in terms of preparation with one or two players, of course it is not good for us to lose a player like Alex.”
Iwobi, 29, has been one of Fulham’s standout performers this season. The former Arsenal and Everton midfielder joined Fulham in the summer of 2023 and has established himself as a key creative force in Silva’s midfield. His absence would be a significant blow to a side already navigating fitness challenges in the squad.
The timing of the injury is particularly concerning for Fulham given the congested end-of-season schedule in the Premier League. The Cottagers remain in contention for a European place, making Iwobi’s fitness status a matter of considerable importance in the coming days.
Fulham’s medical department will continue to monitor the former Super Eagles regular as the club prepares for their remaining fixtures. A clearer update on his condition is expected before the end of the weekend.
