Man United reportedly have no plan of sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager despite their weekend defeat in the hands of Man City.

United were outshone in all departments at Old Trafford, with Pep Guardiola tactically outfoxing Solskjaer to mastermind a crucial victory at Old Trafford.

The defeat was United's third in their last four Premier League matches and leaves them trailing leaders Chelsea by a huge nine points after 11 rounds of matches.

Metro UK reports the poor run of results has affected the mood in the dressing room with the team's confidence now also shattered.

However, United chiefs are said to be ready to stick by Solskjaer and will not be showing the Norwegian the door any time soon.

The Guardian claims the club have no immediate plans to axe the United icon who is now expected to be in charge when they face Watford at Vicarage Road after the international break.

It remains unclear who United would pursue as Ole's successor should they decide to axe him.

Antonio Conte had initially been touted as a formidable successor but has since taken up the vacant Tottenham Hotspur job.

Rio wants Ole gone

With Solskjaer's future coming under increasing scrutiny, Rio Ferdinand has joined those calling for the tactician to quit.

TUKO.co.ke reported that Ferdinand, a former teammate of Solskjaer now believes it is time for the Norwegian to step aside to allow someone else to take over.

Speaking on his podcast FIVE, the legendary defender went on to add Solskjaer does not stand a chance of winning titles at the Theatre of Dreams.

“Now might be the time for that baton to be handed over to somebody else who can take us on," Rio noted.
“Ole would leave now with his head held high. From when he came in to where he got us, at the beginning of this season, has been positive," he added.
