In Ralf Rangnick’s second league game in charge of the Red Devils, the German oversaw his side struggle to create solid chances throughout the game, prior to Ronaldo’s goal.

The only notable piece of goalmouth action from United prior to Ronaldo’s goal was an Alex Telles free-kick which hit the post.

Norwich put up a spirited fight in front of fans at Carrow Road, and Manchester United will have David De Gea to thank as the Spaniard came up with two memorable saves to keep out Teemu Pukki and Ozan Kabak.

How It happened

After a host of changes during the midweek Champions League fixture against Young Boys, Rangnick restored his natural starting XI for the Norwich game.

But despite the strong squad, United made a sluggish start as they struggled to break down Norwich, a side that has conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season.

For Ronaldo, his first sight at goal came in the 38th minute when he ran onto a Scott McTominay pass to cut onto his left foot but fired straight at the goalkeeper.

The second half was no different from the first as United struggled to cause too many problems for Norwich.

Eventually, however, Ronaldo got the chance to save his side once again after he was brought down by Max Aarons as he attempted to connect with a cross.

De Gea earned plaudits from the fans once again with two excellent saves, first keeping out Pukki and later clawing Kabak’s goalbound effort away.

The win was by no means beautiful, but it did the job for United, who climbed to fifth with 27 points.

Chelsea take late victory vs Leeds

In London, Jorginho scored a dramatic late penalty as Chelsea snatched a victory against Leeds United in a pulsating game.

Leeds United initially took the lead through Raphinha, but were pegged back in the first half.
