  • Premier League's match week 11 was marked with a record nine decisions overturned by VAR
  • Newcastle United have been the most affected by VAR decisions this term with calls made against them
  • Liverpool and West Ham have benefited the most, with just a point currently separating the two teams

Chelsea would be enjoying a five-point cushion on the summit of the Premier League table if VAR was not in use, statistics show.

The Blues are currently leading the log with 23 points after 11 matches played, with only three points separating them and second-placed Man City.

According to SunSport, EPL referees had a record nine decisions overturned by VAR in match week 11, with the technology delivering almost as many changed calls last season.

That implies that from the first 110 matches played this term, there have been 44 altered calls.

It is understood West Ham United and Liverpool have been the most affected teams by calls made by VAR (four each), with the decisions overturned in their favour.

This is in complete contrast to Newcastle who have been hit with six changed decisions against them.

An analysis by The Sun now shows the EPL table would look a lot different if VAR was not in use.

Chelsea would be five points clear at the top with 28, followed by West Ham who now occupy third place.

Liverpool, who are currently fourth would be third, with Man City dropping to fourth from their current second place.

Surprisingly, Everton would be fifth, with Arsenal, who currently occupy the position dropping to sixth.

Man United would be three places worse off from their current position, with Tottenham Hotspur further down in 14th.

Newcastle and Norwich would still be battling relegation, with Aston Villa the other third team facing the drop.

Here is how the EPL table would look without VAR:

1. Chelsea - 28 points

2. West Ham - 23 points

3. Liverpool - 22 points

4. Man City - 22 points

5. Everton - 18 points

6. Arsenal - 18 points

7. Wolves - 17 points

8. Leicester - 17 points

9. Man United - 16 points

10. Crystal Palace - 15 points

11. Southampton - 15 points

12. Brentford - 14 points

13. Brighton - 13 points

14. Tottenham - 13 points

15. Leeds - 12 points

16. Watford - 12 points

17. Burnley - 11 points

18. Newcastle - 9 points

19. Aston Villa - 8 points

20. Norwich - 5 points
