Man United have taken a huge step towards reaching the finals of this season's Europa League after securing a 6-2 encouraging win in the first leg of their semi-final tie against AS Roma.
United were in perfect shape during the Thursday night, April 29, clash staged at Old Trafford but had to stage a fightback after going 2-1 down in the first half.
Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani formed a solid partnership up front, with the pair scoring a brace each to inspire the hosts to victory.
The Red Devils took the lead inside nine minutes of gameplay via Fernandes, with the Portuguese flipping the ball gently over Pau Lopez after Cavani angled a perfect first-time pass into the path of the Portuguese.
However, United's lead did not last long enough as Roma equalised through captain Lorenzo Pellegrini who stepped up to convert from the spot after Roma were controversially awarded a penalty.
The visitors went on to build on the equaliser as Edin Dzeko handed them the lead in the 34th minute.
Upon the resumption of the second half, United gathered their arsenal once again, with Cavani scoring the leveller just three minutes after the break.
The Uruguayan made it 3-2 in the 64th minute, pouncing on a rebound after Aaron Wan-Bissaka tested Mirante with a tame shot.
Fernandes put the game beyond the visitors in the 71st minute from the spot before Paul Pogba got into the act four minutes later to make it 5-2.
With just four minutes left on the clock, Mason Greenwood who came on as a substitute joined the goal fest with United's sixth to help his side secure a huge home win.
The Red Devils will now carry the encouraging result into the second leg to be played in Rome, with the Serie A side now needing a miracle to reach the finals.
The winner of the tie will take on either Arsenal or Villarreal who are squaring off in the other semi-final.
