Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has opened up on his relationship with Frank Lampard.

The two Premier League icons enjoyed illustrious careers in the English top flight as they won a number of titles with their respective clubs.

At the international level, they shared a dressing room together as they were teammates for the England national team.

The pair also shared the locker room at West Ham United, where their football journey's budded as teens.

However, it has now emerged that the former football stars do not see eye to eye, years after they retired from the beautiful game.

According to Sportbible, the duo has endured a strained relationship stemming from their competitiveness and rivalry.

Rio speaks on his relationship with Lampard

Rio has now opened up on his relationship with Lampard, with the legendary defender disclosing that their friendship from their time together at the West Ham academy ended after they went separate ways.

While Rio moved to Old Trafford to join Man United, Lampard moved to the blue side of London to join Chelsea.

“It does [impact your friendships]. It is well documented Frank Lampard and I grew up together at West Ham. When he went to Chelsea and I went to Manchester United, we didn't speak. It wasn't a conversation or a fallout," Ferdinand told BT Sport via Sportbible.
“He was focused on winning as many trophies as possible and I was as well. It happens. Some relationships stay the same," he added.

Lampard’s message to Everton fans

Sports Brief also reported on Lampard’s final message to Everton fans after he was sacked.

He returned to the club to say his farewell and proceeded to send out an emotional message on social media, expressing disappointment at not achieving what he set out to at the Merseyside club.

Reports claim Lampard is determined to bounce back after the sack.
