Raphael Varane has left Manchester United in awe after he was spotted shouting at his teammates to go over to the travelling fans and appreciate them.

United were underwhelming during their trip to Anfield on Sunday, March 5, as they were condemned to a 7-0 defeat by Liverpool in an epic Premier League clash.

According to Sportbible, United's humiliating defeat proved that the Red Devils may still be having a long way to go in their bid to return back to the top.

Varane earns praise

After the full time whistle, most Man United stars opted to walk straight down the tunnel, actions which left Varane enraged.

A video shared by Sky Sports showed the French centre-back shouting at his teammates asking them to go over to the away fans and applaud them after sitting through the entire match to support them.

Varane's gesture earned him praise from United fans, who took to social media to applaud the centre-back.

One posted:

"Respect for his professionalism."

A second added:

"One of the only leaders in this team. Disgrace of a performance today, the least you can do is go and say sorry to the fans."

A third agreed and tweeted:

"You absolutely stunk today but this is beautiful."

Another wrote:

"He should be captain over Bruno, especially after today."

Liverpool-Manchester United trophies

In a rivalry that runs through decades, Liverpool and Manchester United are two of the most successful clubs on English soil.

Sports Brief reported that the two clubs will renew their rivalry over the weekend, with both teams needing a win for contrasting reasons.

For Liverpool, it will be a chance to close the gap on the top four, but United, who have an outside chance of winning the title, will hope to at least keep up with second-placed Manchester City.
