Manchester United broke their six-year trophy drought yesterday in front of 33,000 fans of the club at Wembley Stadium after beating Newcastle United 2-0, thanks to Casemiro and Marcus Rashford's first-half strikes.

The triumph was also in the presence of legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, who had his smile back as he watched the team he managed for 27 years lift a trophy - the first since the 2017 UEFA Europa League won under Jose Mourinho.

He spent time with the players and manager, Erik ten Hag after the match and also spoke to the media about many topics related to the team.

Ferguson names Rashford's best position

Rashford is the club's most in-form attacker this season. His goal yesterday was his 25th of the season in all competitions, as revealed by Transfermarkt, but Ferguson believes that despite his sleek finishing, the team needs a centre forward.

“I don’t think he’s a striker. He operates from the left side. His finishing is always good. Unfortunately for us, he’s the main source of goals; we could do with an extra one,” he said, as quoted by Football Daily.

Since retiring in 2013, Ferguson has stayed close to the team and offers valuable input into crucial decisions regarding the club. If he says the team needs a striker, best believe one would be signed in the summer.

Dutch striker, Wout Weghort's goal-scoring has so far not encouraged the team to make his loan move from Besiktas permanent.

Ferguson on Ronaldo joining Al-Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo regards Sir Alex Ferguson as his 'football father' and the retired Scottish manager was influential in his second stint at the club, which ended rather unceremoniously.

The 38-year-old now plays in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr and the 81-year-old is impressed by what his 'son' has brought to the Saudi Arabian team, as reported by Sports Brief.

However, Sir Alex refused to comment on the interview with Piers Morgan that led to the termination of Ronaldo's contract, allowing sleeping dogs to lie and not exhuming any dead.
