  • Casemiro was unwilling to taint his birthday by risking a red card on Thursday, February 23
  • The Brazilian recently got suspended for three domestic games after an on-field scruff during the Premier League game against Crystal Palace
  • As United took on Barcelona in the Europa League on Thursday, there was a similar altercation among players, but Casemiro steered clear of any confrontation
  • Fans took note of the Brazilian’s demeanor and it was quite ironic to watch

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro recently shocked fans after avoiding a scrap between his teammates and Barcelona players.

The Brazilian is known for never backing away from confrontation in football matches and is usually on hand to defend his teammates if the need arises.

Not on Thursday, though, as the 31-year-old played it absolutely safe with his on-pitch behavior against the Catalan giants in the second leg of the Europa League round of 32.

Drama? No thanks

It all kicked off after United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka fouled Frenkie de Jong, and Bruno Fernandes proceeded to boot the ball, which hit De Jong in the stomach.

Barcelona players obviously did not appreciate Fernandes’ actions, and a scrap soon ensued in full glare of Casemiro.

The Brazilian, who seemingly knew better, can be seen in the bottom of the frame, unbothered by the incident as he walked away calmly.

“He understands that the ref was not in anyway planning anything good for united, he knows his a target.” One fan declared.
“Bruh was like "not me again, I'm outta here,” another fan observed.
“He said “I ain’t getting involved,” said another fan.
“Yes I like him better since he didn’t interfere about that,” Another United fan added.

How the game went

As far as the game went, United came from a goal down to secure a 2-1 win on the day and 4-3 on aggregate to advance to the last 16 of the competition, as reported on BBC.

Barcelona had initially taken the lead through Robert Lewandowski’s penalty but thanks to Ten Hag’s tactical tweak in the second half, his side found goals from Fred and Antony to turn the tie on its head.
