Incredibly, that was the side's highest points tally in the league since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

This season, United have emerged as the third favourites to win the Premier League behind Arsenal and Man City.

The Red Devils are currently placed third in the standings with 46 points, six points behind second-placed Man City.

Ten Hag backs Man United for glory

Ten Hag has now sent his Man United charges a firm message on his intent to steer the club back to glory.

Speaking ahead of his side's weekend clash against Leicester City, the Dutchman urged his players to be within striking distance of the title come April, then they can go for it in the coming season.

“We are going in the right direction but we have to fight for it," Ten Hag said via The Sun.
“There are two ways we can get back, one is through the Europa League the other is in the Premier League so we know what we have to do," he continued.

Wenger gives Arsenal title advice

Sports Brief earlier reported on ex-Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger advising the team that now is the time to win the title, as there will be more competition next term.

Though the Gunners are losing their footing by allowing rivals to catch up, the legendary manager believes there is a way to win the title for the first time since 2004.

Should Arsenal have beaten Man City on Wednesday night, they would have opened their lead at the top to six points with a game in hand.
