  • Marcus Rashford debuted a new celebration for Man United after the World Cup
  • Many footballers are now copying the trend and Rashford is hailed as its pioneer
  • Some fans on social media have claimed the Man United ace copied the new style

Football fans on social media have become experts at researching and debunking viral news, mostly on those reports that don't please them or run adjacent to their agenda, team loyalties and club rivalries.

Marcus Rashford's growing influence - thanks to his mental health goal celebration - has taken a dent after fans claimed the most recent style was not in fact his, but rather that of French star, Aurelien Tchouameni.

The Frenchman celebrated by pointing to his head, and revealed after the match that his celebration was inspired by former Argentina international Lisandro Lopez, who was his childhood idol, as reported by Tribuna.

Fans reactions to Rashford's celebration

Twitter FBI - as they are famously referred - have moved to discredit the growing influence of Rashford, after Manchester United fans attributed the celebration to him.

A Twitter user @Outtheboxx uploaded a picture of Tchouameni hitting the post against the Three Lions at the World Cup, claiming the trauma Rashford suffered from the goal that eliminated England had inspired it.

@FuadCadani went ahead to upload four images of Lisandro Lopez, Lucho Gonzalez, Ruben Neves and Houssem Aouar all doing the same pose.

United fan credits Ruben Neves

One Man United fan, Olumide Adeleke spoke to Sports Brief on the controversy and credited the style to Ruben Neves, who he first saw performing it. As a consequence, he credited it to Andrea Pirlo who had inspired Neves.

“It’s funny how United fans, Rashy stans are trying all their best to make it a 'rashy celebration' out of nowhere, even when there are proofs to back it up that Rashy didn’t start this, and there are tons of players that’s been doing it before him. If anyone 'influenced' it, then it will have to be Pirlo according to what Neves said,” he told Sports Brief.

Rashford urged to stay at United

Apart from the controversy surrounded by the goal celebration, Rashford would likely not worry too much as he continues to score goals.

As Sports Brief reported, Man United coach, Erik ten Hag Rashford to stay at Old Trafford as he is pivotal to the Red Devils project.

The English star has linked with a move away from the club due to contract renewal issues, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested.
