Paul Pogba tendered his apology to Manchester United fans following what he described as a disrespectful performance against Everton on Sunday, April 21.

United suffered their worst defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Goodison Park losing 4-0 just days after Barcelona eliminated them from the Champions League, winning 4-0 on aggregate.

Pogba, ashamed at their lacklustre performance, took it upon himself to reach out to United fans and say sorry on behalf of the club while speaking to Sky Sports (UK).

"I want to say ( to the fans), and I know it may not be enough, but the fans want a reaction from the players and the only way to apologise to them is to give everything on the pitch, do our best, create chances, score goals, defend, work for the team and we can even lose games, but with a good performance and pride on the pitch.
"That's how we should apologise to the fans, jut to give everything for us, for the club, for the shirt, for the teammates and for ourselves as well because it is on the pitch and cannot perform like we did," he said.

With Mourinho out of the equation, United are now falling short of scapegoats and excuses having fallen back to sixth place with slim chances of making top four in the Premier League.

Solskjaer expressed his disappointed with United's poor display during his side's 4-0 defeat to the Toffees and said he felt unsure if his players cared enough about Manchester United.

Pogba echoed his bosses sentiments and also offered his own assessment of what the Red Devils needed to do to shrug of the dark cloud of miserable performances following them this season.

"The key thing is to go back to basics. It is really simple, but it is really hard because the basic things are working for your teammates, stay in your position, defend, don't let the player cross, win the second ball - those things. we don't really talk about thus, but they are details that make the difference in the game.
"You go for it and you go for scoring a goal, not just to cross the ball. Those things like that are just basics but they are so important.

Pogba scored twice in this same encounter last season to hand United a 3-2 victory and deny them lifting the title on that day.

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Digne and Theo Walcott scored a goal apiece to gift the Toffees a memorable victory over United.

The Red Devils' embarrassing defeat saw them fail to break into the top four as they currently sit sixth on the log with 64 points.
