  • There have been some stunning free transfers in Europe over the last few years
  • Lionel Messi’s move to Paris Saint Germain from Barcelona in 2021 is among the best
  • PSG are currently monitoring Marcus Rashford in what could be another free steal

Paris Saint Germain is monitoring Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford in what could potentially be another stunning free transfer.

Rashford, 25, has emerged as among the most efficient forwards not only in the England national team, but in World football as well.

His prowess made PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi admit earlier this week that he was a huge admirer of the forward.

A deal with Manchester United is yet to be agreed upon, and Rashford’s current deal is set to run out in the summer.

If he ends up moving to PSG, Rashford will join a list of big names who moved to other clubs as free agents. Sports Brief takes a look at those transfers:

Lionel Messi to PSG

Perhaps the more recent sensational free transfer is the one involving Lionel Messi’s famous move to PSG in the summer of 2021.

At the time, Barcelona was cash-strapped and could not afford to renew the Argentine’s deal.

Esteban Cambiasso to Inter

Another sensational free transfer involved Inter Milan legend Cambiasso.

Cambiasso joined Inter from Real Madrid for free after struggling at the Bernabeu for 2 seasons.

Paul Pogba to Juventus

Juventus are responsible for one of the best pieces of business in football history and it all revolves around Pogba.

The Frenchman initially left Manchester United for Turin in 2013 and as his profile continued to grow, United purchased him back for £ 89.3 million in 2016.

After six underwhelming years at Old Trafford, Pogba once again moved back to Juventus on a free transfer.

Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich

Borussia Dortmund will still be kicking themselves for allowing a prime Lewandowski to leave the club for arch-rivals Bayern Munich back in 2014.

The Poland international went on to win 8 titles at Bayern before his move to Barcelona in 2022. He also scored 334 goals across his 375 appearances for the Bavarians.

David Alaba to Real Madrid

After winning 10 Bundesliga titles during his time at Bayern Munich, David Alaba made the switch to Real Madrid, weeks after winning the Champions League with Bayern.

His contract was running out and he thus made a free transfer to the Bernabeu.

Cafu to AC Milan

Considered one of the best right-backs in history, Cafu played six seasons at AS Roma before making a free transfer to AC Milan, where he won the Serie A title and Champions League. It was one of the bargains of the time for the Rossoneri.

Sol Campbell to Arsenal

Former England international Sol Campbell made the controversial move from Tottenham to Arsenal for free in 2001.

At Arsenal, he went on to play an integral role in the Gunners winning two Premier League titles, including going on the famous invincible run in 2003/04.

Chelsea interested in Manchester United winger

Sports Brief also reported on Chelsea’s reported interest in Manchester United star Jadon Sancho.

Sancho has failed to leave a mark at Old Trafford since his return to the Premier League from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021.

According to Goal, the arrival of Brazilian star Antony from Ajax earlier in the summer has further complicated Sancho's standing in the Man United set-up.
