  • Bruno Fernandes has been identified by Real Madrid as a transfer target
  • The Portugal star is currently enjoying a purple patch at the World Cup
  • He has been instrumental in the Selecao’s knockout stage qualification

Bruno Fernandes is being closely monitored by Real Madrid, according to interesting reports from Spain.

The 25-year-old has been one of the players to watch at the Qatar World Cup, and was on the scoresheet twice in his latest game against Uruguay.

His superb play for his country has led to Real Madrid reigniting interest in the midfielder, and Record claims scouts have been sent to Qatar to monitor him.

An offer from the Spanish giants is thus on the cards, either in January or at the end of the season.

Los Blancos have a reputation of signing players who shine at World Cups, having secured the services of Mesut Ozil after 2010, James Rodriguez after the 2014 World Cup, and Eden Hazard who impressed in Russia four years ago.

Prior to Fernandes’ move to Manchester United in 2020, Real Madrid were interested in him. So far at the World Cup, he has two goals and two assists.

While no deal is on the table, Fernandes could be tempted away from Old Trafford by the fact that he is almost guaranteed Champions League football at the Spanish giants.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side is currently embroiled in an intense title race with Barcelona, who have only a two-point lead at the top of the table.

Fernandes thought Cristiano Ronaldo scored

Sports Brief also earlier reported on an incident that saw Fernandes inadvertently celebrate a goal, thinking it was his international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo who had scored.

The talented midfielder’s cross early in the second half eventually broke the deadlock for Portugal, but it came with a slice of controversy on who had actually scored.

“I celebrated as if it had been Cristiano's goal. It seemed to me that he had touched the ball. My aim was to cross the ball for him.”

Man United pursue SK defender

Still on transfer news, Manchester United is placed in a predicament in their pursuit of South Korea defender Kim Min-jae.

26-year-old Min-jae arrived at Napoli in the summer, and has been crucial for Luciano Spaletti’s side’s title push so far this season.

According to football insider Fabrizio Romano however, the South Korean could be set for an early exit from Naples, with United among the interested parties.
