While a move to Arsenal and Liverpool has also been touted, Man United are understood to be in a pole position to sign him.
Addressing reports linking him with a possible transfer to the Theatre of Dreams, the Netherlands international refused to rule out the move, insisting that 'anything is possible.'
"I’m focused now on the World Cup. It’s always nice to hear, but I just focus here and do my best," Gakpo said via ITV Football when asked about Man United's rumoured interest.
Gakpo said he was not bashful about the rumours, but admitted he was not worried about the nice things people wrote about him.
"I’ll see what happens in the winter. In soccer, anything is possible," he added.
Gakpo is expected to replace Cristiano Ronaldo for the Red Devils, following the veteran striker's acrimonious exit.
