Rashford went into the tournament in impressive form for United, and it only took him a couple of seconds for him to score for his country.

Rashford was the subject of abuse when he missed a penalty for England against Italy, resulting in his country losing the European championship. Still, he's come a long way since then, according to Sky Sports.

This season in domestic and European football, the 25-year-old has scored eight goals this season in 19 appearances. He's also become an important player for Erik ten Hag.

Rashford makes history, twice

Rashford came on in the 71st minute and scored after just 49 seconds, a goal which became the third-quickest by a substitute in World Cup's 92-year history, according to Opta.

Furthermore, the goal was Rashford's first-ever goal at a major tournament, according to Squawka. Before the 2022 World Cup, the Englishman had played in the 2018 World Cup and the 2020 Euros.

The winger will have another chance to add to his tally when England plays the USA on Friday night. He was elated after making history at football's biggest event.

"Words can’t express my happiness in scoring at the World Cup. Great performance from the team see you guys on Friday ⚽️," he posted on Instagram.

Rashford on scoresheet for England

Sports Brief earlier reported on Rashford scoring for England, as they demolished Iran 6-2 in their opening World Cup match.

Saka and Bellingham were England's driving forces, with dynamic displays underlining their emergence as two of the game's brightest young stars.

Meanwhile, Rashford got his first-ever goal for England, giving Gareth Southgate's men a welcome goal difference.
