Cristiano Ronaldo is still the talk of the town following the big interview he did on Sunday with Piers Morgan.

He touched on several subjects, including why Manchester United have not yet caught up to Manchester City and Liverpool, who have dominated Europe and domestic competition.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the club has not lifted the Premier League trophy. They finished second in the 2017/18 and the 2020/21 seasons but were far from the winners.

According to ESPN, Jose Mourinho said finishing second in the 2017/18 season was his best achievement with United.

The club has had six managers since then and had its worst Premier League season last term. Their 58-point return is the worst since the 1989/1990 season, according to the BBC.

Ronaldo on why United are struggling

Ronaldo, who won three Premier League titles with the Red Devils, said there has been no evolution at the club since he left for Real Madrid in 2009.

"Nothing changed since I left. The pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym, even some technology. Even the chefs who I appreciate, lovely people. I thought I would see new technology, infrastructure. I saw things I saw when I was 20," according to Sportbible.

He said some of those issues have stopped United from competing with the very best.

“But you have some things inside that don’t help (us) reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal . . . a club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not, unfortunately.”

Arsenal is top of the table and are looking to win their first league title in 18 years. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Man City have won the last five titles. Erik ten Hag's side have not won a trophy in the last five seasons.

Ferdinand criticizes Ronaldo

Sports Brief earlier reported on Rio Ferdinand saying that Ronaldo's love affair with United is over following his latest comments.

The Portugal star made startling remarks, including saying he doesn't respect Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo recently fell out with the manager after refusing to come on as a substitute.
