  • RyanAir, an airline based in Dublin and London, has appeared to aim a subtle dig at Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho
  • Sancho was among the high-profile names who missed out on Englan's final list for the FIFA World Cup
  • The winger's form has been questionable this season despite showing positive signs early in the campaign

Gareth Southgate's England squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was bound to stoke some controversy. Such is the deep talent pool in England that no matter who Southgate called up, there was always going to be some disquiet from some quarters.

Manchester United star Jadon Sancho found himself omitted from the final squad alongside the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham.

Perhaps Tomori will feel hard done by the decision, given his imperious form for AC Milan. But Sancho knew the snub was coming.

His career is yet to hit the same heights it hit in Germany. He showed some signs of regaining his form during the first few weeks of the Erik ten Hag tenure.

But he has completely fallen off the radar. He last played on 22nd October against Chelsea, where he was hooked off after just 51 minutes.

Southgate has preferred other attackers led by his talisman Harry Kane. He has also called up Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Sancho's teammate Marcus Rashford.

RyanAir, an airline that plies its trade mainly in Europe, has trolled Sancho by offering to fly him elsewhere, just not Qatar.

"Sancho, we'll still fly you somewhere!"

Creative marketing strategy or brutal dig? You decide.

Top English stars who were snubbed by Gareth Southgate

Sports Brief had earlier reported that some notable big names were missing, as Gareth Southgate named his 26-man for England heading to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

Southgate's squad was dominated by players drawn from the Premier League, with Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea, Man City, and Tottenham Hotspur having representatives in the team.

In-form Arsenal stars Ben While, Aaron Ramsdale, and Bukayo Saka are all in the team, with Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford repping Man United.
