  • Cristiano Ronaldo was recently exiled from the Manchester United squad following his conduct during their clash with Tottenham
  • The exile saw him miss United's trip to Chelsea last weekend before he was reintegrated back into the team earlier in the week
  • The 37-year-old announced his return in a special way as he found the back of the net against Sheriff in the Europa League
  • Diogo Dalot and Marcus Rashford were also on target during the clash as the Red Devils stormed to a 3-0 comfortable win

Cristiano Ronaldo was back in his best form as he found the back of the net during Man United's Europa League clash against Sheriff on Thursday night.

The veteran striker was recently banished from the first team by United boss Erik ten Hag after it emerged that he had left the pitch before the full-time whistle.

The incident happened during the Red Devils' League clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, October 19.

However, Ten Hag later divulged that the Portuguese had refused to come on as a sub before he stormed out of the pitch.

The forward's conduct saw him exiled from the team before he was reintegrated back earlier in the week.

Ronaldo scores third goal of the season

And the five-time Ballon d'Or winner proved to Ten Hag just why he is critical to him as he got his name on the scoresheet against Sheriff.

Diogo Dalot netted the opener for the hosts in the 44th minute before Marcus Rashford came off the bench to double United's lead in the 65th minute.

Ronaldo grabbed his own with nine minutes left on the clock, with the forward making no mistake in lashing home from six yards.

His goal, which was his third of the season, sent Old Trafford into a frenzy as fans erupted in celebration.

The celebration was as loud on social media as fans took some time to applaud the Portugal international.

One wrote:

"Ronaldo shutting up his haters tonight, what a performance. My GOAT."

A second added:

"Keep the secret. Ronaldo is back and EPL isn't ready."

Another posted:

"Let's go Ronaldo the best player in the world scores."

A fourth concluded:

"This is why Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest player of all time."

Messi shatters Ronaldo’s record

Sports Brief reported that Lionel Messi shattered Ronaldo’s record in Tuesday's PSG game against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League.

A rampant PSG put seven past a hapless Maccabi Haifa to remain at the apex of Group H, with Benfica trailing by a goal difference but on the same points.

35-year-old Messi not only scored a brace but also provided two assists to cap an excellent night out, underlining his renaissance in performance on the back of a torrid first season at the French capital.

Since his UEFA Champions League debut in 2004-05, Lionel Messi has scored more goals from outside the box than any other player in the competition (23 - one more than Cristiano Ronaldo).
