  • Brentford joined thousands of people on social media to troll Manchester United, who were thrashed 6-3 by Manchester City in the Manchester derby
  • Brentford cruised to 4-0 up at half-time against United early in the season and sought to remind people they also did some damage to the Red Devils
  • United won the second half against City 3-2, but that was nothing more than a hollow consolation

Manchester United were football's punching bag on Sunday, following a disastrous Manchester derby where they lost 6-3 to rivals Manchester City.

Brentford, who had beaten United 4-0 early in the season, were not left behind in taking a dig at United on Twitter.

The Bees put up a nasty Tweet which certainly rubbed the salt in United's wound, who were thoroughly outclassed by Man City.

City were 4-0 up by half-time, and Pep Guardiola reckons his side could have scored more goals en route to their comfortable win.

Unwanted records for United

Erik ten Hag's team now joins a list of seven clubs who have twice trailed 4-0 at the break in the same season. Bolton Wanderers, Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion are among those teams, according to The Athletic.

United suffered embarrassing defeats last season, including a 5-0 and 4-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

In 2011, United were thrashed 6-1 by Man City at Old Trafford. Since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, the Red Devils have set a number of unwanted records both domestically and in Europe.

The 20-time league champions remain 6th on the table after seven games, and will need to improve their performances drastically in their next few games against Everton, Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Guardiola questions his players' derby performances

Sports Brief earlier reported on Pep Guardiola claiming his side could've scored more on his post-match reaction.

Despite scoring six goals against their arch-rivals, Pep insisted that many things weren't right in City's game and felt if his side were consistent enough with the ball, the conversation would've been different after the match.
