  • Manchester United have reportedly identified a striker that will fill their striker's role in January
  • Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos has attracted suitors like United and Bayern Munich after a strong start to the season, scoring eight goals in 12 matches
  • United have been experiencing problems in their striker's department for many years and are hoping Ramos can fill it long-term

Manchester United striker's problem could soon be solved if they lured in-form Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been trying to find a long-term striker for the past few seasons but have been priced out due to a lack of European football and little success on the pitch.

According to an exclusive by The Sun, the 20-time champions are hoping to acquire Goncalo Ramos from Benfica for £25 million either in January or next summer. United have reportedly made contact with the youngster's representatives.

Ramos, 21, has scored eight goals in 12 games for Benfica this season, alerting the likes of Bayern Munich and Newcastle before they signed Alexander Isak.

United resources in the striker department are depleted, with Anthony Martial injury-prone and Cristiano Ronaldo remaining their only recognised striker.

The young striker was on target at Anfield for Benfica when they played Liverpool in the Champions League, an achievement which United fans would welcome.

Erik Ten Hag oversaw United's biggest spending summer but was unable to land his main target, Frenkie De Jong and a striker to bolster his forward line. With huge games coming up after the international break, Ten Hag expects to have a fully fit Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to continue their winning streak.

Ten Hag is set to be backed in January

Sports Brief earlier reported that the Dutch manager is set to be handsomely backed in January to sign players in key positions.

Moreover, a £70 million budget could rise to 100 million if disgruntled star Ronaldo decides to call it quits at Old Trafford. United has not yet replaced their last true striker, Robin Van Persie, since he left about ten years ago.
