  • Jadon Sancho reacted to his omission from England's latest squad by scoring a beautiful goal to help Manchester United pick maximum points in the Europa League
  • Cristiano Ronaldo added another one from the penalty as United beat Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0
  • David De Gea was largely untested by the opponents who surprised Real Madrid last season at the Santiago Bernabeu

Manchester United made light work of Moldovan champions to pick their first victory of the season in the UEFA Europa League.

United scored twice with Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo grabbing the goals for Erik ten Hag's men.

It was a perfect response after falling to a shock 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad last week. Sancho completed off a wonderful layoff from Christian Eriksen to put Manchester United on its way.

Diogo Dalot was then fouled in the penalty area which gave Ronaldo an opportunity to score his first goal in all competitions this season.

United immediately exacted their superiority in the early stages of the game. Ronaldo went down in the penalty area but the referee declined his loud appeals for a spot-kick.

It did not take long for Ten Hag's charges to break the resilient hosts as Sancho snuck in a goal using his left foot to put his side ahead.

The English would, later on, have another opportunity to double his tally but saw his effort cleared off the line.

The second half was a drab affair as United controlled the game with a couple of other half chances. David De Gea was untroubled for large periods in the game, only having to make a save in the dying minutes of the encounter.

Cristiano Ronaldo scores his first-ever Europa League goal

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo has scored his first-ever goal in the UEFA Europa League, which doubles as his first goal of the season across all competitions.

Ronaldo notched his first goal in Europe's secondary club competition with a lovely strike against Moldovan outfit Sheriff Tiraspol.

The 37-year-old forward has struggled to find the back of the net since the start of the season largely due to an uneventful pre-season which translated into the season.
