Manchester United players reportedly want Marcus Rashford to start in attack ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has had a difficult start to the new season after his push to leave Old Trafford this summer failed.

Man United stars want Cristiano Ronaldo benched

The Sun reports that while Ronaldo is desperate to play a more prominent role under Ten Hag, his teammates believe the Portugal talisman should remain on the bench.

According to the publication, the United squad view Marcus Rashford as a better option in Erik ten Hag’s system of 4-2-3-1.

Rashford has appeared to flourish in that system where he is playing as the main striker, finding the back of the net three times since the start of the new season.

Erik ten Hag sets target for Marcus Rashford

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Erik ten Hag has set a 20-goal target for in-form Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

Ten Hag has handed the Englishman a fresh lease of life since his arrival and has been utilised as the main striker in Ten Hag's 4-2-3-1 formation.

Rashford has repaid the Dutchman's faith in him with electric performances, which have seen him score three goals and bag two assists.
