Wife of Angel Di Maria, Jorgelina Cardoso, has revealed he advised the Juventus forward against joining Manchester United.

Di Maria joined United in the 2014-15 season but his stint proved less successful as compared to his spell at Real Madrid - making only 27 appearances and contributing with three goals during his time in England.

Reflecting on his spouse's transfer to United, Jorgelina disclosed Di Maria's choice of joining the Red Devils was money-driven while hailing Madrid as the 'best club in the world'.

"Manchester? Horrible. We were in Madrid, for me it's the best club in the world. Everything was perfect before Manchester United's offer came," Angel Di Maria's wife, Jorgelina Cardoso, has told the media via Tribuna.

However, the financial incentives were too strong for Di Maria to turn down she added.

"I told him no, but he said we would be more secure financially. We fought about it. I didn't want to go to Manchester. I was friends with Giannina Maradona, who was married to Aguero. We went to their house and we were like 'see you later guys'.

"When we left, I told him to choose any country, except for England. One year later, we were there.

"It was a lot of money, and afterwards those in Spain were calling us 'peseteros' [greedy for money]. And they were right. If you work for a company and the other company offers you a double salary, you will take the offer," she concluded.
