It is believed that the 37-year-old has already made it clear to United about his desire to quit the Theatre of Dreams.

Fernandes, who is also teammates with Ronaldo in the national team, has hinted the veteran striker could depart Man United.

Speaking after United's 2-1 win over Liverpool on Monday night, the midfielder called on supporters to ‘respect’ the forward’s decision regarding his future.

"For now, he is a United player. I don’t know about his future, if he will leave or if he will not leave," Fernandes told Eleven Sports.
"If he’s going to stay, we’ll be happy about it, if he’s going to leave because he thinks it’s best for him, I’ll be personally happy for him," he added.

United were looking to get their campaign on track during their meeting with Liverpool, having lost their first two opening matches of the new season.

The Red Devils began the season on a disappointing note, suffering a 2-1 defeat against Brighton at Old Trafford.
