  • Bruno Fernandes has one player he wished Manchester United would have signed
  • The Portugal star wanted his side to acquire his international teammate Matheus Nunes
  • Nunes was signed by Wolves from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of 38million

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has admitted he felt disappointed that Wolverhampton beat Manchester United to the signing of Matheus Nunes.

Nunes is one of the big names Bruno Lage’s side has signed in the summer transfer window alongside the likes of Nathan Collins and Goncalo Guedes.

For United, they have also made a number of signings but after two defeats in their opening two games, it has become apparent that Erik Ten Hag still needs to strengthen his squad.

Nunes was briefly linked with a move to United, before Wolves eventually came up with £38million to acquire the talented midfielder from Sporting.

The star only made his Portugal debut last year, but has proceeded to play a number of times alongside Bruno Fernandes for their national side.

At Wolves, he joins his international compatriots Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in competing for a place in Wolves’ midfield.

“He should have joined United”

Fernandes spoke to Portuguese outlet Record, where he openly expressed his displeasure at the fact that United were beaten to Nunes’signing.

“I've already talked to him. I've already told him that he should have come here (to United) and not there (to Wolves). I'm very happy for him.” He said.
“He's going to experience the best league in the world, he's going to have players beside him with a lot of quality, like Rúben (Sa) and João (Moutinho), who will teach him a lot. They are two experienced players.

Nunes played a large chunk of the game on Saturday, August 20 as his side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea thrashed by Leeds

Elsewhere, Chelsea picked their first defeat of the new season following their 3-0 humbling defeat at the hands of Leeds United on Sunday, August 21.

The Blues were hoping to return to winning ways during their trip to Elland Road, having dropped points during last weekend's 2-2 fiery draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Goals from Brendan Aaronson, Rodrigo Moreno, and Jack Harrison were enough to condemn Chelsea to a comprehensive defeat.
