Cristiano Ronaldo sends positive message ahead of Brentford clash

Ronaldo used the occasion to send a positive message to his millions of followers on social media.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner shared a photo of him sprinting during training, captioning it with a strong four-word message.

"Hard work always pays off," he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo will be hoping to make Erik ten Hag's starting squad that will take on Brentford on Sunday, August 14.

The 37-year-old had to settle for a place on the bench during United's season opener against Brighton at Old Trafford last Saturday.

Ten Hag's charges went on to suffer a 2-1 humiliating defeat in the Dutchman's first Premier League match in charge of the Red Devils.

Manchester United pull out of the deal to sign Marko Arnautovic

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester United have pulled out of a move for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic in another transfer twist.

Erik Ten Hag was initially considering a move for the 33-year-old former Stoke City striker, having previously worked with him at FC Twente.

But the Old Trafford club ultimately decided against pursuing the deal but are still in the market for a top striker in Europe.
