A clip of Ralf Rangnick’s scathing assessment of Manchester United from last season has resurfaced following the Red Devils’ shock 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, August 7.

Erik Ten Hag had the worst imaginable start to life in the Premier League as he oversaw his side succumb to a lowly defeat as a rejuvenated Brighton completely outplayed his side at Old Trafford.

One thing that both fans and pundits seemed to agree on after watching the game was the fact that United struggled in midfield, and could probably use some reinforcements before the summer transfer window closes.

Scott McTominay was particularly dragged on social media for his performances, as many fans concluded he cannot be paired up with Fred in midfield.

After the defeat, amid varying asessments of what Manchester United needed to get back on top, an interesting video of Ralf Rangnick resurfaced.

For context, the video was of Rangnick’s press conference earlier in the year after United lost 4-0 to Liverpool in the Premier League.

Not only did Rangnick talk about a rebuild after that defeat, he also went into detail on what exactly United needed, and it was not all about making new signings.

"The team needs a rebuild. Not because some players have to go but quite a few have no contracts anymore, their contracts are expiring, then for me it’s clear there will be six, seven, eight, maybe ten new players. Rangnick says in the video.
"Before you sign those players, you need to be aware of how you want to play, what kind of football does the new manager want to play?"
“If you look at the two clubs that are currently dominating the Premier League [Manchester City and Liverpool], they did exactly that.

Rangnick has since moved on after his interim stint at Manchester United came to an end and he is currently head coach with the Austria national team.

As far as transfers are concerned, United have made two significant ones this summer, bringing in Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez, both of whom featured against Brighton.

Hudson Odoi poised to exit Chelsea

Elsewhere, reports claim Chelsea ace Callum Hudson-Odoi was lost for words after he was omitted by Thomas Tuchel for the Everton game.

The 21-year-old winger is a target for German giants Borussia Dortmund, and the Guardian now reports that a transfer is highly likely before the window closes.

Southampton is another club that approached Chelsea about a possible loan deal for Odoi, but the attacker is keen on playing at a “high level” and would prefer a move to Dortmund instead.
