Speaking to MUTV before Sunday's 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford, Goal quoted the former Blackburn Rovers and Bafana Bafana striker saying:

“It’s a privilege and if you get the smallest opportunity that you get you must grab it with both hands. The mentality around the club is completely different. The manager has just brought that what has been missing over the last few seasons.

“Hopefully this season, we’re going to see a completely revived United and a hungry bunch of players and a team that is going to be able to challenge beginning with the Champions League and hopefully change the dynamics.”

As was reported by Soccer Laduma, McCarthy will serve as strikers coach, a great boost in his career getting to contribute to a club he has supported since boyhood.

Before this momentous move to England, he was coach at Cape Town City and Amazulu, where he was shown the door in April after an indifferent second season with Usuthu.

"The ultimate role model": Benni McCarthy's Manchester United appointment peaks South African pride

South Africans have reacted with joy and a sense of pride following Benni McCarthy's addition to Erik Ten Hag's backroom staff at Manchester United.

As reported by Sports Brief, the former Amazulu coach will assist with attacking plays and positioning of the forwards in the team. This was just days after Banyana Banyana were crowned the champions of the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

McCarthy famously helped FC Porto, coached by Jose Mourinho, knock the Devils out of the 2003/04 UEFA Champions League's Last 16 stage.
