  • Manchester United fans fumed at the state of the pitch in their side’s final preseason friendly against Aston Villa
  • The Red Devils surrendered a two-goal lead as Aston Villa grabbed an equaliser late in the game
  • One major talking point was the watter-logged pitch which was posed an injury risk on the players

Manchester United fans were up in arms on social media about the poor state of the pitch as they saw their side frustrated to a 2-2 draw by Aston Villa.

United’s flawless record under Erik Ten Hag came to an end as Villa managed to get a late goal to claw from two down to secure a draw in the preseason friendly.

But moments to the game, there were concerns about the state of the pitch following heavy downpour in Perth that left the surface saturated with water.

Regardless, the game was given a green light to go on, but the effects of water were evident as players often went flying in as they tried to tackle.

Prior to the game, Ten Hag refused to pass any blame on the stadium, as he was quoted by The Sun saying;

“It’s a wonderful stadium, it’s a pity that the pitch is not that good because our football demands a good pitch.”
Fans on social media however did not share the same sentiments.
"That pitch is embarrassing." One remarked.
"Watching the Man Utd vs Villa game and this pitch is taking me back to the heyday of the 90s!"
"That’s literally worse than the Sunday league pitch down the road." Another added.

How the game went

United picked up where they left off in their frightening preseason form as they took the lead through Jadon Sancho.

An own goal from Matty Cash looked to have put the Red Devils well on course for victory, but there was more drama to come.

The Villains pulled one back through Leon Bailey's curling strike from outside the box, and with virtually the last kick of the game, Steven Gerrard’s side were level.

It was Calum Chambers who headed home the winner from a corner, with David de Gea pretty much off his line.

Haaland scores on Man City debut

Elsewhere, It took Erling Haaland just 12 minutes to get his first goal in Manchester City colors as his side beat Bayern 1-0.

The game, which took place at Lambeau Field - home of top NFL team the Green Bay Packers, was shrouded with incident as it briefly had to be suspended due to a lightning storm and both sets of players exited the pitch.
