Manchester United could have a new captain when the 2022/23 football season commences as the Red Devils are considering dropping Harry Maguire from the role.

Maguire has come under heavy criticisms from United supporters following his underwhelming displays last season which has prompted new manager, Erik ten Hag to consider replacing the England defender.

According to a report via the Daily Mirror, Erik ten Hag could offer the United captain’s armband to Cristiano Ronaldo who was the Red Devils’ top scorer for last season.

The 37-year-old forward is set to remain with the Red Devils for another 12 months despite reports suggesting he could be on his way out of Old Trafford.

The Dutch manager is set to speak to Ronaldo in a bid to make clear his plans for the new season and convince the former Real Madrid star to lead the Red Devils for the upcoming football season.
