  • Ralf Rangnick has only been in charge of the Austria National team for nearly three weeks
  • He however seems to have already stamped his tactics into the team, based on how they are playing
  • Austria somehow managed to frustrate France on Friday, and the World Champions remain winless in the Nations League so far

Footage has emerged showing how the Austria national team has completely transformed in a matter of weeks under Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick, who worked at Manchester United for six months as interim coach, was unable to bring the best out of the star-studded squad as the Red Devils ended the campaign in a lowly sixth place.

Since then Rangnick opted against taking up a consultancy role at the club and has since moved on to become head coach of the Austria national team.

He has seemingly hit the ground running with Austria, and fans have been quick to note some massive changes in the way the team is playing.

The 63-year-old is known for being one of the godfathers of the now-famous high-octane pressing football, and this is exactly how Austria has been playing over their last few games.

Several clips doing rounds on social media show the Austria players fully willing to take up a pressing approach to the game, sometimes to devastating effect.

In their nations league game on Monday against Denmark, Austria found an equaliser after a run of play that screamed ‘Ralf Rangnick ball’.

A high-pressing trio up front forced Denmark goalkeeper into a mistake and veteran Marco Arnautovic found an inch-perfect cross for Xaver Schlager to sweep home.

Austria however still succumbed to a 2-1 defeat as Denmark found the winner through Jens Stryger Larsen.

More impressively, Ralf Rangnick’s side thoroughly frustrated France on Friday, June 10, and were on the verge of a famous win, but Kylian Mbappe found an equaliser for the World Champions.

Fan reaction

Typically, fans who have been watching Austria's last few games were quick to make the same point.

"Anyone else watching Ralf Rangnick's Austria pressing France really well. It's almost as if he wasn't the problem at Manchester United!" One fan noted.
"Rangnick in 3 games with Austria has done really really well against good sides. Shows you how poor our lot are and how little they tried for the shirt and fans," added another.

Ten Hag fires warning to Man United stars

Back in Manchester, Erik ten Hag has told his Manchester United players he will not tolerate big egos at the Old Trafford club next season.

The former Ajax manager made this warning in an email to the first team players as he has outlined what he expects from the team in the upcoming football season.

Ten Hag says he expects a big increase in intensity during Man United training sessions and will replace anyone who does not fall in line with the new rules with academy kids.
