Despite his longevity at the Theatre of Dreams, Lingard became a peripheral figure in the final seasons of his spell at the club.

He was sent out on loan at West Ham United during the 2020-21 campaign before returning for the 2021/22 season.

However, he was unable to nail a prominent role in the team during the just-concluded season, paving the way for his departure.

"Manchester United can confirm that Jesse Lingard will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June," Man United announced in a statement.

Lingard has now taken to social media to send Man United fans an impassioned message ahead of his exit.

The Englishman took stalk of his career with the Red Devils, insisting the club will always "remain in my heart."

"Born and bred a red. Over the last few weeks, I've been emotional about leaving a club that is family," he posted.
"After 22 years I’ve had so many special memories and moments that I will cherish forever. @ManUtd will always remain in my heart. A massive thank you. Lots of love Jlingz," he added.

Man United close to signing La Liga defender

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Man United are reportedly in a pole position to land the services of Pau Torres from Villarreal.

The La Liga centre-half has courted interest from a number of EPL clubs, with Man City, Spurs, and Chelsea believed to be keen to sign him.

However, reports in Spain contend that the highly-rated defender prefers a move to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old's release clause at Villarreal is believed to be in the region of £51million.
