The German boss was appointed on a temporary basis for the rest of the just-concluded 2021.22 season.

The Sun reports the former RB Leipzig boss was scheduled to step up for a consultancy role after the conclusion of the season to pave way for a new permanent manager.

Man United announce Ralf Rangnick's permanent departure

However, United have decided Rangnick will not be staying at the club as was previously planned, with the German now set to depart Old Trafford permanently.

The Old Trafford dwellers made the announcement on Sunday, May 29, with the club revealing the decision was reached after the two parties mutually agreed to part ways.

“We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months," Man United announced in a statement.
“By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.
“We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career," the club added.

It is believed United decided to get rid of Rangnick altogether after a troubled loan spell.

The tactician was unable to steady the ship after he took charge, with United posting the lowest point tally in their Premier League history.

The Red Devils could only manage a sixth-place finish with 58 points, behind Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur who sealed the top-four spot.

Erik ten Hag sets target for Man United next season

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Erik ten Hag has said Manchester United have no choice but to break into the top four next season.

The new United boss noted that a return to Champions League is the bare minimum the club can target.

The Red Devils endured a frustrating 2021/22 season where they had to settle for a sixth-place finish with 58 points.
