  • Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong has sent an indication that he intends to remain at the club despite prolonged interest from Manchester United
  • The Red Devils are keen to reunite De Jong with his former manager Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford
  • Ten Hag will be desperate to buy a midfielder, especially with the impending exits of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic

Frenkie De Jong has dropped a massive transfer hint that he intends to remain at Barcelona.

Manchester United have been keen to bring De Jong to England and reunite him with his former manager, Erik Ten Hag.

The two worked together in a very successful spell at Ajax. Ten Hag has since been appointed as the new manager of Manchester United.

But if his latest Instagram post is anything to go by, De Jong isn't keen on moving elsewhere.

The Dutch international stated,

It has been a disappointing season for us. We couldn't achieve the goals we set at the beginning. But I want to thank fans for their support this year. We will work hard to do better next season.

Manchester Evening News reports that Ten Hag is keen on bringing in a new midfielder. Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are set to depart. The club is looking at Ruben Neves or Declan Rice, but De Jong is a front runner given his existing rapport with Ten Hag.

The former Ajax midfield kingpin will however be keen to nail his place in Xavi Hernandez's squad next season. Xavi is overseeing some sought of mini-rebuild ahead of next season.

Erik Ten Hag is preparing himself for a busy transfer window

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported that Manchester United are set for a busy summer transfer window that could see the club sign new players to help Erik ten Hag keep pace with Man City and Liverpool.

The Red Devils endured a frustrating 2021/22 campaign that saw them end the season without a trophy.

Additionally, the club missed out on a top-four finish and had to rely on a West Ham United defeat on the final day of the season to secure a Europa League ticket.
