  • Cristiano Ronaldo asked Matic to take a lap of honour after Manchester United's last home game of the season against Brentford
  • The clash was Matic's last time playing before the Old Trafford faithful in The Red Devils' colours as he is set to leave the club this summer
  • The Serb is yet to decide on his next club with a reunion with his former boss Jose Mourinho a big possibility

Nemanja Matic has disclosed details of an interesting conversation he had with Cristiano Ronaldo. Matic is set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season. He played his final game at Old Trafford in United’s 3-0 win over Brentford last week.

The Serbian was applauded widely by the fans when interim manager Ralf Rangnick substituted him. After the game, he wanted to head down the tunnel but Ronaldo implored him to take a lap of honour.

I wanted to get off the field as soon as possible because I don’t like to have something revolving around me and to be the centre of attention. But Ronaldo told me ‘Wait, what are you doing? Come back.’ It is a great honour to share a dressing room with him every day.

Matic’s time at Manchester United will come to an end after over five years at the club. Manchester Evening News reports that he is contented after saying his goodbyes.

I feel great and it’s really great to say goodbye to the club and the fans in such a wonderful way. There were 75,000 people in the stands

Matic still unsure of his next club

The 33-year-old joined Manchester United from Chelsea in 2017. He is yet to announce his next destination but the Daily Mail understands that Jose Mourinho is interested in bringing him to AS Roma.

The pair worked together during Mourinho's short stint at United. 'The Special One' is also interested in bringing Eric Bailly and Diogo Dalot.

A major summer overhaul is expected at Manchester United with the arrival of Erik Ten Hag. Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Matic will all leave the club.

Fresh faces will be seen at the club and Bailly and Dalot might just choose Rome as their next destination.

Ronaldo's sister startles United fans

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo's sister sent manchester United fans into panic mode after liking a post on Ronaldo's possible departure.

It is still not certain whether Ronaldo will remain at United next season. The red Devils have performed poorly this season and could end up in the UEFA Conference League.

Ronaldo has enjoyed a fine individual campaign and a return to his former club Real Madrid is a possibility.
