  • Eric Bailly seemed to plead with new manager Erik Ten Hag to consider him in the squad next season
  • The Ivory Coast international has been devoid of playing time this season, and has started only seven times in all competitions
  • He commented on a fan’s post requesting Ten Hag to start him alongside Raphael Varane

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has sent a subtle plea to new manager Erik Ten Hag on Instagram, leaving fans in stitches.

Ten Hag was on Thursday, April 21 confirmed as the new Manchester United boss from next season on a three-year deal, and talks on how the Dutchman will line up his squad next season have already begun.

Bailly is among the long list of Manchester United players whose future remains in the balance, but from the Ivory Coast international’s social media activity, it seems he is keen on staying at Old Trafford.

Manchester United shared a post announcing Ten Hag as the new gaffer, and one fan commented by asking the new boss to start Bailly alongside Raphael Varane at the heart of defence from next season.

Interestingly enough, Bailly noticed the comment and he simply replied with "Please," along with a laughing emoji and praying emoji.

The comment aroused interest from United fans, who saw the funny side to the whole situation.

Bailly at Man United this season

Having signed a new contract with Manchester United in April last year, Bailly expected to be an integral first team player.

But that has been far from the case, and the 28-year old has often been overlooked by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

He has so far made only seven appearances all season, with four of those coming in the Premier League.

His situation has failed to improve under Ralf Rangnick, who seems to prefer Phil Jones over the former Villareal man.

Van de Beek subtly approves Ten Hag’s appointment

One player who will be glad Ten Hag is the new United boss is Donny Van de Beek.

The Dutchman played under Ten Hag for three years at Ajax, but has had an underwhelming spell at Manchester United since moving to England.

He was shipped out to Everton on loan in January, but he is yet to settle at Maeseyside, and is expected to move back to Manchester United at the end of the season.
