  • Pogba was angered after Manchester United captain Harry Maguire backheeled him on the head during the game against Norwich City
  • The Frenchman had to be consoled by Cristiano Ronaldo as medics rushed onto the pitch to help him
  • United moved to fifth after a 3-2 win over Norwich City, with Cristiano Ronaldo bagging a hat trick

Paul Pogba was left fuming on Saturday, April 16 after his captain Harry Maguire inexplicably injured him during Manchester United’s clash against Norwich City.

United emerged 3-2 winners to boost their hopes of finishing in a top four spot, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a sensational hat trick.

It was not a straightforward win for the Red Devils by any stretch, as they were pegged back by Norwich, who came from two goals down to make the scores 2-2.

With the game level once again, tensions were clearly high at Old Trafford and this was exhibited with the players, especially with a bizarre incident involving Maguire and Pogba.

At the half-hour mark, Maguire inadvertently struck Pogba while jumping for a corner by Alex Telles, and he ended up drawing blood from his teammate.

Telles’ corner was typically met by Ronaldo, whose effort was calmly collected by Norwich keeper Tim Krul, but fans were more interested in the Maguire-Pogba incident.

Pogba, who was clearly in pain, was left fuming at his captain, and it took the intervention of Ronaldo to calm the Frenchman as medics rushed to offer treatment.

As Ronaldo comforted Pogba, the World Cup winner could be seen pointing in the direction of Maguire, who had rushed back to his own half.

As expected, the incident elicited hilarious reactions on social media, with Maguire at the centre of the jokes.

"'Harry Maguire has managed to kick Paul Pogba in the head and draw blood. Pointing his own players out for handball one week, kicking others in the head another week." One fan said.
"Maguire deserves [the] Puskas award for the scorpion kick to Pogba," another added.

It all ended in smiles for United, however, as Ronaldo secured victory for his side with a stunning free-kick, his first for a club in more than two years.

Arteta on Arsenal defeat

Elsewhere, Mikel Arteta could barely come up with a reason why his Arsenal side slumped to another defeat, this time at the hands of Southampton.

Jan Bednarek scored the only goal of the game to condemn the Gunners to another lowly defeat as the race for a top-four spot heated up.

If stats are anything to go by, Arsenal should have won the game quite comfortably as they enjoyed the lion’s share of possession as well as attempts on goal.
