Former Sir Alex Ferguson No.2 Steve McLaren is reportedly in line to make a sensational return to Manchester United as a coach.
It is believed United are keen on hiring McLaren to assist Erik ten Hag who is believed to be a frontrunner for the Man United managerial role.
The Ajax boss is said to have been interviewed for the Old Trafford job as United continues their hunt for a permanent manager to take charge at the end of the season.
Steve McLaren's chemistry with Eric ten Hag
According to The Guardian, United are keen to reunite McLaren and Ten Hag at Old Trafford after the duo previously struck a formidable partnership.
The two managed Dutch club FC Twente together, with Ten Hag deputising McLaren at the time as they went on to steer the side to league success in 2010.
However, a move for the pair to the Theatre of Dreams will see roles reversed, with McLaren deputising Ten Hag this time.
It is believed the decision to recruit McLaren into Ten Hag's backroom staff is aimed at making up for the Ajax manager's lack of Premier League experience.
