  • A father and son have experienced a run of poor luck after failing to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play live on three separate occasions
  • The father, Chris Broome, started his quest to get his son watch Ronaldo live in 2020
  • His latest attempt was in Manchester United’s game against Leicester City, which Ronaldo missed through illness

Imagine forking out more than £3,000 for your beloved child to have the chance to watch the great Cristiano Ronaldo live at a stadium, only for the Portuguese star to miss the game.

This is exactly what happened to one father, who can count himself extremely unlucky after his son missed the chance to watch Ronaldo thrice.

According to The Sun, Chris Broome, 43 and his 12-year old son have been to three different games with the hopes of seeing Cristiano Ronaldo strut his stuff on the pitch.

And on all those three occasions, the current all-time record goal scorer missed the game for one reason or the other.

As a result, Broome will feel that he just might have wasted a staggering £3,200, which he incurred to attend those games.

A poor run of luck

Their incredible case of poor luck dates back to 2020, when the father and son travelled to watch Ronaldo in action for Juventus, but the superstar, who was 35 at the time, was rested.

That trip cost Broome a clean £1,550, but he once again got the chance to help his son fulfill his dream when Ronaldo moved back to Manchester United in the summer of 2021.

For the second attempt to see Ronaldo, the father and son picked the Manchester derby in March 2022 and as fate would have it, Ronaldo picked up a hip-flexor injury and also missed out on that game. United went on to lose 4-1.

Hoping to be third-time lucky, the pair once again booked tickets for Manchester United’s game against Leicester City, but again Ronaldo was absent from that game with illness.

According to The Sun, despite their unlucky encounters with Manchester United matches, Chris is still determined to make his son’s dreams come true.

“It’s costing an arm and a leg," Chris said, as per The Sun.
"I promised Zac I will take him to see Ronaldo play, so I’ll make that happen come what may.”

Rangnick explains Ronaldo’s absence vs Leicester City

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported of Ralf Rangnick’s take on Cristiano Ronaldo’s sudden absence from the squad to take on Leicester City on Saturday, April 2.

“Unfortunately he had flu like symptons before training yesterday. Obviously if he was well he would have played today.” Rangnick said on Saturday.

United face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, April 9, and there is still uncertainty on whether Ronaldo will feature in that game.
