Cristiano Ronaldo reached another landmark, this time on social media, as he became the first athlete to amass half a billion followers across various social media platforms.

Over the years, the 36-year old has established himself as a global icon and one of the greatest football stars to ever live.

As a result, fans from across all walks of life and sports have taken keen interest in Ronaldo and his lifestyle and this has greatly helped his social media cause.

Taking into account Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the Juventus forward has a collective follower count of over 500 million.

This came only months after he celebrated becoming the first human to clock 200 million followers on Instagram.

He remains the most followed human on the photo-sharing platform, currently boasting 261 million followers and counting.

On Twitter, Ronaldo has a staggering 91 million followers and is closing in on the 100 million mark.

Facebook is his second most popular platform after Instagram as his personal page has over 125 million likes.

One of Ronaldo’s biggest advantages over other athletes in terms of the social media game is the fact that he is overly active and actually pays attention to detail.

This has made him hot property in terms of acquiring endorsements and attracting followers who are not necessarily interested in football.

He also inspires the ladies with cute photos of his family and his stunning girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez.

Compared to his rival Lionel Messi, Ronaldo has 78 more followers on Instagram while on Twitter, he is undisputed since the Argentine does not have a personal account.

On Youtube, Ronaldo has well over one million subscribers despite not using his account for more than four years now.
