Former Aberdeen and Celtic player Charlie Nicholas is a high-profile name that wants Solskjaer to take over at the Scottish club.

Aberdeen recently parted ways with manager Stephen Glass after defeat to Motherwell in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

A number of big names have been tossed around the rumour mill as far as Glass’ replacement is concerned, including Jack Ross, Jim Goodwin and Paul Lambert.

But SportBible reports that it is Solskjaer, who is preferred to take over at Pittodrie, especially by Charlie Nicholas.

According to the former Aberdeen forward, appointing Solskajer would be a massive statement from the club, as it would show some ambition.

If Aberdeen really want to make a statement they should go and make an attempt to speak to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer,” he wrote in the Daily Express.

"I was thinking about managerial options for my old club and I would love them to go out and make a real statement of intent.
"Why not show some ambition? Go and see if you could get a big-name to reignite the fire at Aberdeen again."

Solskjaer’s downfall at Man United

Manchester United sacked Solskjaer in November 2021 after a dismal run of form that was summed up by a lowly 4-1 defeat to Watford.

The Red Devils would go on to appoint Ralf Rangnick on interim basis until the end of the season to try to steady the ship.

Since his departure, Solskjaer has been linked with several managerial jobs , including his former club Molde and the Norway national team.

Players suffering from lack of confidence

Meanwhile, Sports Brief reported of Ralf Rangnick’s uphill task of trying to rebuild the team amid a run of demoralising draws for his side.

Rangnick recently spoke during a press conference where he admitted three successive draws for Man United has hurt the squad’s confidence.

"Obviously, when you're 1-0 up in three consecutive games and concede an equaliser, this also affects the mind of the players,” he analysed.
