Manchester City made light work of their rivals Liverpool in Saturday's early kick-off, the first Premier League game back from the international break.

The Reds opened the scoring through Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah before City responded through World Cup winner Julian Alvarez, a goal that had heavy involvement from Riyad Mahrez who dribbled past Virgil van Dijk.

The second half witnessed goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish to round up a comprehensive 4-1 win over Jurgen Klopp's men who put up a shambolic defensive display.

There were records for Mahrez and De Bruyne as they surpass two African Premier League legends with their assist and goal respectively.

Mahrez surpasses Drogba's record

As reported by Goal, the Algerian wing wizard became the African with most assists in the Premier League with 56, surpassing Chelsea legend Didier Drogba who had 55.

Drogba also scored 104 goals in his eight years and two stints at Stamford Bridge, winning four Premier League titles and two golden boots.

De Bruyne matches Yaya Toure

Kevin De Bruyne scored one and assisted another in the win over Liverpool moving level with former City midfielder Yaya Toure for goals scored for the Citizens with 62 goals, according to William Hill.

The Belgium captain did it in six more games. He has also provided 98 assists, a far superior number to Yaya's 32. KDB has won four titles while the Ivorian won three titles.

KDB sends message to Guardiola

Sports Brief earlier reported that Kevin De Bruyne expressed unhappiness at reduced minutes this season and sent a message to Pep Guardiola.

The Belgian playmaker claimed he is disappointed but accepts Pep's decision having been with him for eight years since joining from Wolfsburg in 2015.

The former Barcelona manager has also issued a warning to the former Chelsea midfielder to get back to basics if he wants to get back into the team.
