  • Pep Guardiola has three idols in his life and one of them is renowned actress Julia Roberts
  • Roberts inadvertently hurt the manager's feelings with a decision to spend time at Old Trafford
  • City are through to the Champions League quarter-finals after emphatically seeing off RB Leipzig

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola recently made an interesting claim as he revealed an unlikely idol in his life - Julia Roberts.

Guardiola, as it turns out, is a huge admirer of the Hollywood star and revealed this as he was making an interesting point about the Champions League.

The elite European competition remains the only elusive trophy for Guardiola as a Man City manager but the Spaniard joked that even if he won it this season, he would still be a 'failure'.

This is for the simple fact that he feels he ‘lost’ his idol, Julia Roberts to City’s arch-rival, Manchester United.

Speaking in the aftermath of City’s 7-0 mauling of German outfit, RB Leipzig, Guardiola said:

“I am a failure in the Champions League. If I win the Champions League three times in a row, I will be a failure.” He said as quoted on Sky Sports.

He then mentioned the three idols in his life: Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Roberts.

“Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester - not in the 90s when Sir Alex [Ferguson] was winning titles and titles and titles. She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right?"

Roberts is a star in her own right as she has starred in timeless films like Notting Hill, Ocean’s Eleven, and Ticket to Paradise.

As reported by The Mirror, Roberts visited Old Trafford back in 2016 to witness a game against West Ham that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Guardiola on his Haaland sub

Sports Brief also reported on Guardiola explaining Erling Haaland's substitution despite the Norwegian looking for a second hat-trick against RB Leipzig.

The lethal striker was withdrawn after an hour on the pitch to a standing ovation from the Etihad Stadium faithful and his manager, who congratulated him.

Haaland had become only the third player in history to score five times in a single UEFA Champions League game after Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano.
