  • Manchester City got the better of Arsenal in the top of the Premier League table encounter
  • The Gunners's dominant performance was not enough to stop City from scoring three goals
  • Pep Guardiola has now revealed where the game almost went in favour of Mikel Arteta's team

Mikel Arteta fell short of victory yet against his former boss, Pep Guardiola for the seventh time in a row when three goals dispatched Arsenal in the top-of-the-table clash at the Emirates Stadium.

The win helped Manchester City go level on points at the top of the table and sit first due to a superior goal difference, despite the Gunners having a game in hand.

City started the game in an unfamiliar formation, with the Spanish manager revealing it was a mistake on his part and almost cost the team victory, as reported by Goal.

Speaking after the game, as quoted by Metro UK, Pep claimed it was a tactical mistake.

‘‘My tactics because I decided something new, and it was horrible. Second half, we were more like we are,’’ Guardiola said.
‘‘We let them play in the build-up - our shape. We let them play. When you let them play with Jorginho, [Granit] Xhaka and Alex [Oleksandr Zinchenko], they found the players behind and runners on the outside,’’ he added.

The former Barcelona manager also singled out two players for praise on either side of the pitch for helping the second-half adjustment go smoothly.

‘‘Ruben [Dias] was really good, going more aggressive towards [Martin] Odegaard, and we controlled more, and we played more. Erling [Haaland] helped us a lot. We were one against one and had to play more long balls, and he used his power to keep the ball,’’ he said.

Aguero bets on City to win

Sports Brief earlier reported on former Man City striker, Sergio Aguero betting on City's win, which he revealed on Twitter before the game.

'Kun' made a profit of over $10,000 after staking $8,000 on the event with 2.47 odds, with his former team doing well at the Emirates Stadium.

Aguero could have been left furious if his former manager's mistake had cost the team victory - and cost him a big payout as a result.
