  • Opta has crunched numbers for the remaining Premier League fixtures to predict how the final table could look
  • Per their prediction, Arsenal will pip Manchester City to the Premier League title by a marginal point difference
  • Liverpool and Chelsea have been given no chance of a Champions League spot, with Tottenham also falling short

Stat gurus, Opta have predicted how the final Premier League table could look as the 2022/23 season takes shape.

Arsenal and Manchester City are currently neck-and-neck at the top of the log, with just three points separating them ahead of their meeting on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere, Manchester United have emerged as outside title contenders, sitting third on the charts with 45 points.

On their part, Newcastle United will be hoping to secure a Champions League spot after an incredible campaign which has them occupying fourth place.

Chelsea meanwhile, have been underwhelming so far this season alongside Liverpool, with the two Premier League giants in the middle of the table.

At the bottom, Southampton, Bournemouth and Everton are occupying the three relegation spots.

Whereas both Everton and Southampton have made managerial changes in recent days in a bid to escape the drop, Bournemouth have opted to stick with Gary O'Neil - at least in the interim.

Opta's Premier League prediction

According to Opta's prediction on how things could pan out at the end of the season, the statisticians have projected the title race will go down the wire.

However, it is the Gunners who will eventually come out on top ahead of the Citizens, with a minimal margin separating them.

Man United and Newcastle have been predicted to seal the top four spots, with Spurs falling short in their bid to qualify for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Liverpool have been given no chance of playing European football next term, with Everton, Bournemouth and Southampton all predicted for the relegation drop.

What Arsenal needs to win

Sports Brief earlier analysed what Arsenal must do to win the Premier League title, and it all borders around outwitting Manchester City.

The Gunners need to beat the record number of points for a league champion - 100 - set by Pep Guardiola's men in the 2018/19 season.

They must also pick up the maximum points in their two legs against the Citizens, starting tomorrow night at the Emirates Stadium.
