  • Manchester City have received a hilarious loan bid for star striker Erling Haaland from Ashton United
  • Ashton plays in the seventh tier of English football, which will be on even as the World Cup takes centre stage
  • Haaland won't be in Qatar as his nation, Norway failed to qualify for the world football competition

Erling Haaland is set to be out of action for more than a month, as club football takes a break ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

His nation Norway did not qualify, which means he will be among the few City players who will remain behind. The other high-profile player is Riyad Mahrez.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has planned an Abu Dhabi training session, but the players will be given a few days or weeks off.

Haaland's debut season in England is going well, with the striker already up to 18 goals in the Premier League. It will be vital for Guardiola for Haaland to keep up his form when the league resumes in December.

For this reason, seventh-tier side Ashton United have submitted a hilarious 28-day loan offer for Haaland's services. The lower divisions are still in action and Ashton have moved in to seize an opportunity to keep Haaland fit and also help their cause.

They are currently 11th on the table with 25 points, 8 points short of leaders Hyde. Should City approve the request, Haaland will play in a total of 6 matches, starting with this weekend's clash against Bamber Bridge.

A win-win for both parties

Ashton manager Michael Clegg said:

"It just makes sense. City aren’t playing, and we want to help by keeping Erling fit. It makes more sense than him playing golf for six weeks," as quoted by Sport Bible.

City are yet to respond.

Why Haaland almost represented England

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has revealed that he could've played for the Three Lions if his dad, Alfie Haaland had stayed longer in the Premier League.

Haaland will have to watch his Man City teammates represent their respective countries at the 2022 World Cup, after his country failed to qualify for the tournament.

The Norwegians failed to qualify after finishing third in their group behind the Netherlands and Turkey. They have not qualified for the World Cup this century.
